Andorra's highest mountain rewards the entire ascent: forest near Arinsal, a more open valley by the refuge, Estany Negre's dark water and a stony upper ridge. As you climb, resort Andorra drops away beneath a wider mountain horizon. In dry summer conditions this is a goal for prepared mountain walkers comfortable with sustained effort and uneven ground. Snow patches change the task, and descending requires as much attention as climbing. Choose the normal variant beforehand rather than adding an unfamiliar circuit simply because it looks shorter on a map.
