Paratge Natural d’Interès Nacional de l’Albera

Albera is a Natural Site of National Interest, rather than a natural park. At the eastern end of the Pyrenees, mountain woodland gives way to Mediterranean oak forest, with dolmens and old monasteries. For a family day, combine one heritage site with a short walk, accounting for heat, tramontana winds and private land.

Before you visit

Camping & bivouacs

Visitor overnight stays are allowed only in the site’s huts. Educational, scientific or management camps require landowner and park permission; there is no general bivouac exception.

Lighting fires is prohibited. Ask the park specifically about camping stoves and current fire-risk restrictions.

Dogs

Keep pet dogs controlled on a lead. Animal-welfare law prohibits leaving animals loose where they may harm people, livestock or protected nature.

Use authorised roads only. Much of the land is private: close gates, do not block access and check fire-related closures.

Ordinary cycling on rural paths does not require site permission; organised mountain biking does. Private access rights and municipal restrictions still apply.
