What makes it special

Escarpinosa offers an appealing combination of mountain water and pines growing close to its shore. The approach through Estós and Batisielles reveals the landscape in layers: woodland first, then pointed rock shapes appearing between the trees. It suits walkers who enjoy a sheltered setting and a varied approach. We suggest making the lake the main objective and returning along the same route. The possibility of continuing to other lakes should not turn a rewarding pause into a race; the ascent and lengthy descent already call for a sensible energy reserve.

Plan your day

Start at the Estós valley entrance car park and follow signs towards Batisielles and Escarpinosa. The official booklet gives 13 km return and 780 m of climbing, explaining our demanding rating. Perramó and upper Batisielles are outside these figures. Keep energy and concentration for descending the rockier upper section.

Elevation gain +780 m

D+ for official route S-3: Estós entrance car park–Ibonet de Batisielles–Escarpinosa and back. The booklet and inventory give 780 m; other official descriptions use a different estimate.

Before you set out

Check the forecast, trailhead access and the managing organisation’s notices. Times are estimates; snow, heat and your group’s pace affect difficulty.
