What makes it special

Irati reveals a different Pyrenean landscape, with the forest taking the role usually played by summits. The Zabaleta circuit brings together beech, fir and the waters around Irabia reservoir. We favour it for an unhurried day spent noticing canopies, reflections and seasonal colour. Autumn calls for generous stopping time, while spring offers the interest of fresh leaves. The appeal comes from a succession of small details rather than one essential photograph. Choose your entrance before setting off: different access roads lead to different parts of the forest and different walks.

Plan your day

The circuit begins at Casas de Irati beside the information point; 8.74 km refers specifically to Zabaleta. It is not the complete reservoir circuit. Check road access and parking arrangements. Wet roots and leaves can be slippery. The suggested 3–4 hours allows a relaxed pace with short stops.
