Madriu is a protected UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape, rather than a third Andorran natural park. Stone paths, pastoral buildings and valleys preserve the visible relationship between people and mountains over centuries. Walking towards Ràmio or Fontverd introduces the lower valley, while journeys to the upper lakes require far more time and effort. Separate a cultural walk from a high-mountain traverse, and choose the appropriate approach and refuge before setting out.

Before you visit

Camping & bivouacs

Camping conditions depend on the parish: it is prohibited in Sant Julià de Lòria. Guidance gives a small-camp exception for Andorra la Vella and Escaldes; confirm group size, duration and location with the relevant Comú. There is no blanket valley-wide permission.

Access & parking

Approaches are spread across four parishes; consider La Plana for the lower valley and Circuit de les Fonts for Coll Jovell. Your approach determines parking and trip length. The valley is explored on foot; a road to parking does not continue to the refuge.

Wheeled access, including bicycles, is prohibited. From September to February, marked paths and visible clothing are recommended because of hunting.
