Canyoning in the Pyrenees and Guara

Water-filled gorges and dry canyons: choose by terrain, season and experience.

How to choose

Canyoning means descending a canyon, rather than simply walking beside a river. Depending on the itinerary it can involve swimming, rock passages and rope descents. “Beginner” describes a particular programme in suitable conditions, not every canyon in a valley.

  • Discuss your swimming and rope experience before choosing a canyon.
  • Ask which features are compulsory and which have alternatives.
  • Check the catchment forecast and the local guide’s assessment of water levels.

Segudet: canyoning beside Ordino

Beside Ordino, the short Segudet gorge offers a compact introduction to canyoning in the Andorran mountains. As the descent begins, the path and open slope give way to the streambed, rock steps and working with the equipment. Its modest length leaves room for a valley walk afterwards, once the approach and briefing are included. Official tourism information calls the canyon easy but specifically warns about strong flow and storms at its head. Whether it suits a first experience therefore depends on the guide’s assessment of the actual water conditions.
